Foreign minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari received on 19 August, 2015 a copy of the credentials of the new Australian ambassador to Iraq Mr. Christopher Langman at the ministry Headquarter.
During the meeting, they discussed the bilateral relations and means to enhance them in the interest of the two friendly countries.
The minister affirmed the Ministry's readiness to fully support the Australian ambassador's mission in Baghdad, expressing his best wishes for every success in his mission.
His Excellency said that Iraq is willing to sign memoranda of cooperation with Australia in economic, investment, agriculture, industry and health fields, pointing out that Iraq has fertile ground to invest in, with resources that were not exploited properly in the service of the Iraqi people. The minister stressed that Iraqis are sacrificing themselves in defence of Iraq's dignity and are facing a worldwide threat that must be supported in terms of military, security, service and humanitarian fields to eliminate the terrorist gangs of ISIL.
While, the ambassador asserted that his country place a high value on the courage and sacrifices of Iraqi people in their fight against the terrorist gangs of ISIL defending Iraq and all nations of the world. His Excellency added that Australia will keep on providing help and support in many fields and is looking forward to activate memoranda of cooperation in the service of the two friendly countries, noting that he would exert all his efforts to enhance the bilateral relations with Iraq.
