Foreign minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari received a copy of credentials of the New British ambassador to Baghdad Mr. Jonathan Pool Welks, at the ministry's headquarter.
On the sidelines of the credentials handover ceremony, the minister called for the continued support of the United Kingdom for Iraq, contribution to the reconstruction of its cities, urging British companies to work in Iraq and increasing the volume of investment between Both countries. And help the friendly countries, which today extends its relations with the countries of the world and contributes to the maintenance of security and stability of the region.
HE expressed MOFA readiness to support the work of the diplomatic mission in Baghdad, expressing Iraq's appreciation of Britain's supporting attitudes in international forums and its war against terrorist gangs.
From his side, the new British ambassador affirmed his country's continued support for the unity and sovereignty of Iraq and the provision of various assistance to the elimination of terrorism and the return of security and stability. He added that Iraq is a strategic partner of Britain in the region and will seek to open new horizons for joint cooperation between the two countries.
He noted the importance of exchanging visits between officials of the two countries and enhancing bilateral relations in the fields of economy, trade, investment, education and culture.
