On the sideline of the meetings of International Coalition Against Da'esh that is held in Rome, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Ibrahim Al-Jaafari met his Swedish counterpart Ms Margot Wallström.
During the meeting, they reviewed the bilateral relations and means to promote them in the interest of the two friendly countries, as well as, discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The minister said that the Iraqi armed forces are making significant headway in the war against the terrorist gangs of Da'esh, stressing the need to have the support of the international community until achieving security and stability.
His Excellency commended the supportive stances of Sweden in embracing Iraqis, calling on the need to look after them. The minister also praised the Swedish initiative of establishing an EU mission to assist Iraq.
Dr Al-Jaafari denoted the need to exert further efforts in promoting parliamentary relations between the two countries, referring:" the relationships between us serve as a base to develop our relations with other European countries". H. E. Al-Jaafari emphasised the importance to activate the work of the Iraq-Sweden committee.
While, the Swedish foreign minister asserted her countries long-standing commitment towards Iraq and standing by it in the war against the terrorist gangs of Da'esh, referring that Sweden decision is to support the displaced persons issue and allocating $12 million for them. Her Excellency affirmed that Sweden is still working with the UN to assist the displaced persons.
"We have discussed the establishment of an EU mission, which shall provide humanitarian support, in order to assist Iraq," Ms Wallström said, thanking Iraq for supporting Sweden's candidacy for membership on the Security Council.
