Statements have been issued lately and recent news circulated by the media and social media on the Foreign Minister's statement regarding Iraq's stance on the Palestinian issue and the two-state solution , in this regard we would like to express that what has been circulated is a negation of reality and a disgrace to truth.
Iraq's steadfast stance on the Palestinian issue is based on the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative that was reaffirmed at the Arab Summit in Baghdad in 2012, is reflected in the continued support for restoring the occupied Palestinian territories from the Zionist entity, as well as support for the efforts of the Palestinian Authority in international forums in Geneva and New York directly by the Minister when he was a permanent representative of Iraq in both Missions. The Minister worked in the Human Rights Council, and through the seventh item of the agenda, which discusses the Palestinian issue and the Israeli violations of the rights of the Palestinian people's claim to hold accountable the perpetrators of these crimes against unarmed civilians. At the United Nations General Assembly in New York, during the premiership of the Arab Group the Minister worked on the draft resolution to raise the Palestinian flag on the United Nations building and strengthen its position in the world. The draft resolution, which passed the majority of votes and gained overwhelming success after the vote in the General Assembly on the basis of this success, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas gave minister (Honour of Alquds), the highest award granted by the Palestinian Authority, accompanied by a letter of thanks and appreciation for the efforts of the former Iraqi representative ( the current Minister) in appreciation of Iraq's support for the Palestinian issue.
In the UN Security Council, Iraq defended the absolute rights of the Palestinian people under the item of the Middle East and issued several official speeches and statements affirming the rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is the right to live in an independent and viable state. In the Committee on Decolonization (Fourth Committee in the General Assembly), during the regular meetings, the Permanent Representative (Current Minister) regularly presented national speeches and held meetings of similar minded countries to support the State of Palestine and end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.
Iraq also supported Palestine in its membership in the Security Council, the UN General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, and the Chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China.
