The Deputy Permanent Representative participates in the informal meeting on IEDs
The Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent mission of Iraq to Geneva, Dr. Abbas Kadhom Obaid participated in the informal meeting organized by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of France, which discussed the prevention of the spread of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) through the evaluation of legislative frameworks, held at the Permanent Mission of France on 7/8/2019.
During this informal meeting, the Deputy Permanent Representative gave a presentation on the challenges facing Iraq in the field of removing IEDs and its impact on the return of IDPs to their homes, as well as the role of the Iraqi government in adopting national laws concerning the prevention of the spread of IEDs. The DPR thanked the states and international organizations that contributed in supporting Iraq in the clearance of IEDs.
The meeting was attended by representatives of countries that have been affected by IEDs, as well as experts from the UNIDIR, the Small Arms Survey and Interpol.
